Who is this workshop for?

ANY photographer at ANY level, from novice to pro who have an understanding of shutter speeds and apertures, along with core camera craft.

Those who simply wish to demystify photographic lighting and learn to see and manipulate light in the same way Damian has mastered during his 25-yr career.  This imformation is for those who want to improve their picture taking and augment their money making.

Overview

It's a simple fact that if you want to be a better photographer you have to understand and be able to manipulate light, without compromise.  In no field of photography is this statement truer than "people photography".  It is the subtle manipulation of light which enhances and flatters the subject, thus creating the illusion of "3 dimensionality" in our 2-dimensional images.

High quality photographic lighting has been seen as a "black art" for long enough and something of a learning "minefield", so who better to guide you through this, and put you firmly on the right road, than arguably the photographic industries most decorated celebrity photographer and the man that the popular photographic press most often refer to as the ""Magician" or the "Lighting wizard".

During this information-packed workshop Damian "The BIG Dog" McGillicuddy will ensure you learn all of "the skills to pay the bills".

Some of the things you will learn

  • How to "see" light.
  • The four "creative" properties of light and how to create fantastic images using them.
  • The secrets of "soft" and "hard" light all of their properties and uses.
  • The correct use of light modifiers - what they do and how to use them from soft boxes to snoots.
  • The simple "lego brick " lighting system Damian himself employs.
  • You'll look at and examine "key" lights, fill lights, hair light, background light and seperation lights.
  • The classic lighting of "loop"," rembrant", and "butterfly".

What people are saying about the McGillicuddy Lighting 101 workshop

I used to think the title of "Lighting Wizard" was one which the magazines used to get you to buy them.  After being on a Lighting 101 day with McGillicuddy I now know differently.  The guy is a genius.  If you want to know "all that is lighting" then book on this workshop.- Ronnie Caldwell

Having spent the day with McGillicuddy he makes the whole complicated subject of lighting fairly simple to achieve. - Andy C

I had followed Damians articles in the SWPP magazine for some time and I thought "what the hell, why not?"  My question now is "why did I wait so long before I went on one of his workshops?"  1st class, easy to understand information about how simple lighting can be.  Thank you for a fabulous day. - SWPP Member

I've been into photography for a whole 2 months now and I read an article by Damian about lighting and thought "if it's that important I'm going on 1 of his workshops to see for myself!".  It was a kind of "start as you mean to go on" moment for me.  I' can tell you that of all the money I have already spent on photography I value the cost of the training from Damian as being BY FAR the best money I have spent - Margaret

All I can say is I now have 1st-hand knowledge as to why McGillicuddy is known as the Lighting Wizard.  The Lighting 101 day in his studio has taught me more about lighting than I have learned in my previous 4 years of photography. - Louise Fleet
