Who is this workshop for?

ANY photographer at ANY skill level, from novice to pro, who wishes to turn their speedlights into the really useful tools they are, by learning the secrets of how to get the very best from their friendly flash.  You will be required to understand shutter speed and apertures along with basic camera craft.

Overview

Traditionally, great photographers have a bad back, dodgy knees and drive some sort of estate car or people carrier!  All these facts are symptoms of spending years lugging heavy camera equipment around everywhere you go!

Used with aplomb the humble speedlight can set you free and lighten your load.  With the correct knowledge the humble speedlight can be as creative and useful as any other light source... ...and much, much easier to carry around with you!  Statistically the speedlight is the next purchase, (after camera and lens), which most photographers make.  After the initial excitement of owning your own “pocket-able sunshine”, and

due to a lack of understanding of its HUGE potential of being every photographers friend, the speedlight is left languishing in a forgotten corner of the camera bag.

The time has come for all photographers to liberate that light.  Let the man whom the popular photographic press most often refer to as “the lighting wizard” show you how to get the most out of your speedlight/s, enabling you to create wonderfully lit images over and over again.

What you will learn

  • How to find speedlight friendly locations.
  • How to create contemporary images with just one speedlight.
  • How and why it’s important to be able to take your speedlight “off camera”.
  • How to mix natural ambient light with your speedlights output.
  • How to meter for the best and most creative speedlight images.
  • How to control and benefit from adding gels to your speedlight.
  • How “high speed” sync can be a really creative tool.
  • How multiple speedlight images are really as easy as 1-2-3.
  • How to “see” the picture and “create” the image by controlling composition, perspective and lens selection.

Recommended Kit List

1. A DSLR (Nikon, Canon, Sony or Olympus etc; we are not equipment proud)

2. A small selection of lenses from moderately wide to short telephoto (24mm to 200mm would be ideal)
