This image was taken using the Damian McGillicuddy beauty dish which I find gives a far superior result than my Profoto22 inch metal beauty dish (which is shortly going on eBay) this image was taken in the customers house in a 6 x 6ft square space using a Quadra with a 20% grid on a Lastolite pop-up background the beauty dish under the chin. Ian Sheard. The Beauty Dish is a "Beauty to use". It is precisely what I require to be creative. Ideal for location purposes and the design is super. Seamus. My Beauty Dish gets a lot of attention from other photographers, they are all curious as I convert the tiny flat bag into a full beauty dish within 60 seconds. They really like the ability to fix anything from a speedlight to studio flash to it. Then there is the fact that it can be made into a softbox in seconds. However where they really do get interested is simply the quality of light it throws out. We recently compared my dish with a standard dish, and the light from the Damian Mcgillicuddy Beauty Dish was unmistakeable. Somehow it was just more even and flattering, a photographer friend even described it as magical. I dont pretend to understand why its better, I think part of the reason this dish seems so effective may be that it was designed by a photographer. It is easy to assume its just another "Beauty Dish", but I feel the results speak for themselves and prove its not. This dish has become my number 1 modifier and gets used for almost all of my shoots now. I even had a disaster where I broke several flashes, and managed to still get some amazing shots with just one light and this dish. Matthew Bridge-Wilkinson Regarding the Down & Dirty CD is ideal, written in a language thats easy to understand, and packed with information and inspiration. Will be buying the series. Amanda Turner The CD is great, tried out the lighting setup and got some great images. Loved it John Fisher Collapsible Light Panels 72" x 40" & 32" x 32" As a student within McGillicuddy's Mentor Me on Steroids Programme, I was fortunate to see how these babies perform at close quarters. My first insight was of a construction known as a "Beauty Booth" - the two larger vertical light panels placed square to the subject's shoulders , and the smaller panel reflecting light under the chin area. The larger panels would have the black side (t'other's silver) toward the subject therefore subtracting light (sounds daft, I know but trust me on this, ok?). One main light, maybe a background light, and the result?...stunning! I was so impressed, I bought all three panels. Transport is so simple. The units take apart very easy, they're lightweight yet well made, and their flexible, adjustable design is spot on. No fuss, no gimmicky rubbish, just common sense quality merchandise - a pleasant change nowadays. Twelve months on, and having used the units every single session (in the studio), I sometimes wonder how these could be improved upon. Oops !, nearly forgot - and remember, these panels have been designed by a working (and very successful) photographer. Dave Silvester.
Collapsible Beauty Dish As a student with McGillicuddy;s , Mentor Me on Steroids Programme, I was fortunate to be able to put this beauty dish "through it's paces" before purchasing. I was not disappointed. The first noticeable factor is the portability. I live in the middle of the Irish Sea, so you can imagine that every time I want to fart, I have to jump on an aeroplane. The beauty dish takes apart in seconds, folds flat, its lightweight, and sits happily in the suitcase or camera bag. The dish comes complete with detachable front diffuser and a white/silver deflector panel sitting snugly and firmly in the centre of the dish. Speedlites and quadras are equally happy bunnies, living with the beauty dish. Image results are first class. Just ask the designer how many Gold award images he can associate with his beauty dish... I dare you ! Dave Silvester
Portaflex Speedlite Modifier Kit Perfection ! Sits in the bag , unnoticed, all day long, no weight, little volume. When asked to perform, these little beauties really rise to the occasion. Since buying, I've never shot a wedding without them. Versatile, and as cheap as chips ! Top marks from me. Dave Silvester CD Down and Dirty Volume 1 Because my photography has improved dramatically since enrolling with McGillicuddy's Mentor Me on Steroids training programme (and invested my life savings on all this kit), my workload and order book is so full, I aint had time to watch the bloody thing. But you can bet your mortgage on it, It'll be apsolutely brill !!! Dave Silvester Beauty Dish Great to see Damians beauty dish finally being sold on mass, at it's cost its the best thing in photography I have ever bought. Neil CD Well I have to say that I have watched it about 10 times trying to take in all the advice. After all trying to learn from one CD what the Big Dog has been doing for years is impossible. I find it helps me understand in nice simple way (no disrespect) the more technical aspects of portraiture and also explains why things are done that way and not just "do it this way" Alan
